Cultural Arts

The Monsoon Society serves its members and its mission by promoting the cultural arts of Southeast Asia and by supporting its members to create and sustain opportunities for the public to learn and grow.

Each of the martial traditions and organizations below represent a culture group, a cultural history, and a variety of related traditions.

Martial Traditions

PEKITI-TIRSIA SYSTEM OF KALI
A traditional system of weapons combat from the Negros Occidental region of the Visayas in the Philippines as promoted by Grand Tuhon Leo T. Gaje jr. of Bacolod City.
PENCAK SILAT GADJAH PUTIH
A village system of Sundanese empty hand combat including traditional dance performance and internal breathwork – from Garut, near Bandung, West Java.
BUDDHAI SAWAN KRABI KRABONG
Thai sword fighting from the Buddhai Sawan Institute in Bangkok and Ayuthaiya under the late Ajahn Samai Messerman
